Regulation Bodies

I have learnt that there are 5 different regulating bodies, these include ASA, BBFC, Ofcom and PCC however PCC was taken over by IPSO and finally PEGI. Each of these bodies have the same purpose in mind which is to protect children and any other people from looking at over aged content. ASA's purpose is to regulate advertising in the UK and look at all media sectors while BBFC help by giving out the age ratings for films that have certain themes and content. Ofcom likes to regulate the media sectors for TV and radio shows and fixed-line telecoms which can be operated over wirelessly in order to help protect the user from any dangerous and over aged content. PCC might have been taken over by IPSO but they regulate in the press. So that includes anything such as newspapers and magazines and in more depth they help sort out any problems the reader/user may have with the product for example if the editor has published something offensive then IPSO will decide to become involved and help sort out the issue and whenever someone publishes something through the press they must uphold the standard of the code of practice to not be informed by IPSO. PEGI is probably one of the more known ones as their job is to help by putting warnings and age ratings on games such as 3,7,12,16 and 18 and in further detail they will decide if a game must have certain warnings on their on box art for example fear for any game that may contain scary content for children. Sex which may contain any sexualised references, violence which is more commonly used in fighting games, shooting games and just a range wide of games in today's industry. Discrimination is also another warning most games can end up having while it's uncommon usually any game that encourages racism or promotes some sort of racisim will be given the discrimination sign on their game. The problem with PEGI though is it's used by parents to make sure they by their child a game studied for their age while even if one use of bad language is used without the entire game the game will be given the rating which can affect a whole range of sales which is the reason most games either include no warnings or a lot of warnings to make sure they make the most of having the warning on their game.
