How has access to digital media technology changed how the audience consumes media?

One way digital media technology has changed how the audience consumes media is how it's increased our expectations, for example if you go and buy a new phone now days you automatically assume and expect the phone you purchase to have online browsing and a camera and access to an app store with a range of other things your phone does which replaces other sort of media and this is called technology convergence for example we no longer use a calendar since it's on our phone and we no longer need alarm clocks as we have access to all of that on our phones, another thing that has changed is that the older the phones get the less we actually use it for making phone calls. Also by having access to all this new media technology it's affecting how people communicate as you no longer have to send a letter or wait till the next school day to tell your friend something as you can do it right then and now by messaging services such as Facebook and Twitter and if someone lives around the other side of the country you no longer have to send them a letter or wait for them to come to you or you go to since again you can use messaging services to keep in touch with them or even free calling services such as Skype,Viber etc. Another way how digital media has changed how the audience consumes media is by allowing online chat apps as this no longer means to get friends you have to go out and try and socialize but instead you can stay at home and go online and you'll be able to find people with the same hobbies as you and try making friends with them instead which a lot of people like as it saves them from attempting to socialize with people and getting rejected in person which could affect their self esteem. Also another way how the audience's in todays society uses media differently is when travelling you no longer have to worry about looking up transportation times in advance as everything will be on your phone for when you need it and exactly when you need also now days you can store your credit card information and such on your phone which means people are not required to carry around a wallet however it does come at more disadvantages as losing your phone means you lose a lot now days. Games consoles have also changed because instead of purchasing games in the shop a lot of people are staying at home and buying the games from there very own home which lets them get it at times where shops would be closed such as past midnight. This also affects how people socialize but also affects how fit people get and can overall affect your health. 

It's also possible to tell how your health is doing with digital media technology which is causing more and more people to not require going to a doctor which again is a life saving issue because the doctor's medical equipment may pick up on stuff your phone is unable to.
